We will continue working on capital letters this week as well as focus on phoneme segmentation, blending, and sight words. Our sight words for the week are : is, we on, up
In math, we will work on seeing the ten in teen numbers. We'll also practice counting and writing numbers to 20 as well as addition and subtraction. Sometimes I may send home some math work to finish or correct. I will add a page protector to the student folders and any work that needs to be finished will be inside. I will give students extra class dojo points for finishing this work! :-)
In reading, we will ask and answer questions about key details in text. We will discuss how informational text and stories differ. In fictional text, we will identify character and setting as well as the main events. I will be assessing students on knowing the difference between a story, a poem, and an informational text.
In writing, we will be writing both narrative and opinion writing. We will work on proper sentence structure and addiing punctuation to sentences as well. We will also learn how to make a list!
In science, we will learn the difference between a mixture and a solution. We'll make gingerbread playdough too! The Science Lady will be coming to our classroom to teach us all about germs on Friday. This will be our first lesson with her and she is fabulous!
We will go to the Gingerbread Shop this week on Wednesday at 1:15-1:45 If any parents would like to come help out as the students do their shopping, that would be great!
We will have a Gingerbread party on December 20th from 12:30-1:30. We would love for parents to join us in making gingerbread houses and we'll put on a little 5-10 minute performance for you :-) . Some students may have a speaking role that they will need to memorize. Look for those to come home soon. I will also send home a sign up for supplies.
Class Wish List: masking tape or painter's tape. We need these for engineering projects.
